| President's Message- |
| Over the years, CREDAI Bengal has evolved from a mere developers' forum to an organisation with focussed social responsibilities, fostering real estate initiatives for the betterment of the Society. |
Home Front, which traditionally used to be a property exhibition, has been transformed into a real estate discussion arena, where issues concerning the entire industry are debated with the objective of reslolving these for unfettered development. We have had the privilege of having leading experts in their fields like planning, development, policy and finance, participating in these discussions. Many of the recommendations that have emerged are under active consideration for translation into policies. A notable development in this direction was the participation of the honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal and Mayor of Kolkata in the Realty Expo 2008 held from the 27th February, 2008. In his speech the Chief Minister recognised the importance of CREDAI Bengal in the development of the state and lauded its efforts.
As part of the initiative to bring global practices into the real estate industry, CREDAI Bengal led a team of members to Dubai for an intensive interaction with architects, construction companies, marketing agents, financiers etc. The visit was extremely useful and the real estate industry in West Bengal should see the increasing induction of the best global practicies.
Training and development form a key success factor in the development of any industry and real estate is no different. CREDAI Bengal has introduced a Certificate Course - the first of its kind - in Real Estate Management in association with St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, which aims to develop trained manpower to meet the growing requirement of the real estate sector. The course is extremely popular and is in its second year now. CREDAI Bengal has also collaborated with Women's ITI Kolkata to create a Centre of Excellence in construction and wood working. |

As part of its committment to protect the environment, CREDAI Bengal is constantly working to educate members on the importance of adopting green building codes and practices. Seminars have been held on the subject and the visit to Dubai provided an opportunity to observe the implementation of these practices. In the next few years we hope to see many projects making green building codes and practices the cornerstone of design and development.
While the above are some of the more visible initiatives, CREDAI Bengal has been working tirelessly behind the scene with the government, municipal authorities and stakeholders to ensure that the policies agreed upon are translated into practices and procedures and necessary initiatives taken to implement these. While there have been some transitive results, the process of converting well-meaning polcies into effective work practices is gradually gathering momentum and in the next few years I am hopeful of seeing marked and visible improvement. one of the measures of increasing appreciation of CREDAI Bengal's efforts has been the steady increase in its membership. While membership per se has grown handsomely, what is more heartening is the breadth and diversity of its membership - it now includes not just developers but also suppliers and services like marketing, finance and legal. I believe that functional participation will lay the necessary foundation for a holistic development of the real estate industry.
Finally, I would like to record my thanks and appreciation to all members, and to the entire CREDAI Bengal team, which has worked ceaselessly and tirelessly to bring this organisation up to the level where it is today. |
